Refuge history
The cottage was transferred to the FEEC to take refuge as hikers. In the summer of 1998, the FEEC within the NATIONAL REFUGE PLAN with the support of the Higher Sports Council and the Generalitat of Catalonia decided to demolish the old and deficit free refuge to build a new sheltered refuge. The first phase of the works began at the beginning of August 1998 and was completed in mid-November. Throughout this period we were living camped with tents in the Eugues plane at 2000 meters high.
The usual hardness of the construction world was increased due to being in the high mountain. There were two pallets, a few pawns, and, Yolanda and myself, as future guardians of the refuge we should do some "practices" by cooking for the workers during the whole process of building construction. Many of the pawns could not endure the harshness of the environment and "escaped" causing the average mountaineer to resort to fellow mountaineers more suited to the environment.
The works had started too late and that forced us to work in the clock to finish the structure (walls, roofs and windows) before the winter came. The day was shortening, the sun increasingly cost him to reach the refuge, the temperature was lowering in prick and the first snowstorms and strong winds began. After many sacrifices, in mid-November 1998, the structure was finished. Interior finishes were made in May and June 1999.
